Engaging with your followers on social media is crucial to building a successful online presence for your business. However, you need to keep certain do’s and don’ts in mind if you want to make the most of your social media engagement efforts. In this blog post, we will discuss the do’s and don’ts of social media engagement so that you can create a strategy that works best for you and your business!

Do:

Stay up to date with changes to social media platforms. This way, you can take advantage of new features and ensure that your engagement strategies are effective.

Be responsive to comments and messages. If someone takes the time to reach out to you, make sure you respond promptly. Believe it or not, users comment and message because they want to be noticed too!

Create content that is interesting and engaging. Know your audience! Know what interests them.

Make use of social media analytics. This data can help you understand what is working well and improve your engagement strategy.

Engage with followers on a regular basis. Set aside time each day to engage with your target audience. The goal is to keep your brand front of mind, so they don’t forget you.

Ask questions. Ask questions that invite engagement and allow you to get your audience better. Pose questions that test their knowledge. You can even invite your audience to a “ask me anything” session.

Share user-generated content. Show your customers you appreciate them by sharing the posts they share about your brand. Don’t forget to tag them!

Don’t:

Ignore or delete negative comments. If someone has a problem with your business, it is best to address it head-on. It’s your opportunity to change the mood of the conversation. If you are at fault, genuinely apologize. If it is criticism, accept it. Think of it as an opportunity to showcase your professionalism to the rest of your audience.

Post too much or too little. Find a balance that works for you and stick to it. The best practice would be to create a posting schedule; this keeps you proactive about finding new content.

Spam followers with irrelevant content. Only post content that is relevant to your target audience.

Be overly promotional. People don’t want to feel like they are being constantly sold to.

Post low-quality content. Instagram, for example, is a visual experience. Post high-quality images related to your brand. Captions should be catchy, so they invite engagement.

Take advantage of hashtags. Find users that would be interested in your posts. Engage with users who use the same hashtags as you by liking or commenting on their posts.

Use too many hashtags. Too many hashtags can make your posts look spammy and desperate.
